C17 The Sanitary Pad and Zombies!!(2)

Upon hearing those words, Janet slowly lifted her head and stealthily scanned her surroundings. Aside from the man's familiar face before her, there were no signs of zombies anywhere. She breathed a sigh of relief and, looking up at Willett, unleashed a barrage of complaints: "How dare you raise your voice at me! And for the umpteenth time, I've told you to call me 'beauty,' not 'Beastkin'... Beast your sister..."

Her eyes began to well up with tears, and her voice wavered, "Why did it take you so long to get here? The monsters... they're terrifying. They... they ate Daddy, Mommy, and my sister... I managed to find a newly renovated hotel to hide in, but last month, zombies started swarming around it... Yesterday, they broke through the main door, and I barely escaped through the back... It was so frightening; I don't want to be eaten..."

Overwhelmed by emotion, Janet broke down into uncontrollable sobs.

"It's okay... it's all going to be okay... I'll protect you... Please, don't cry," Willett said, frantically wiping away her tears and trying to soothe her. Seeing the normally upbeat and easygoing class monitor reduced to tears and listening to her recount her harrowing experiences, Willett felt a surge of compassion and sorrow. Indeed, a woman in her twenties should be in the prime of her life, not enduring such horrors. He imagined that if he had to witness the deaths of his own loved ones, he would likely be even more distraught. Thoughts of his parents far away in Inyilona weighed heavily on him, and he fell silent.

After some time, Janet's crying subsided. She gazed at Willett, her cheeks suddenly flushed with emotion. "You said you would protect me... Did you mean it?"

She fixed her gaze on him, awaiting his response.

"It's not true!"

That's what Willett wished he could say, considering the burden of responsibility. But as he looked into Janet's tear-streaked eyes, his resolve melted.

"Of course, it's true. I'll take care of you," he assured her, thumping his chest with feigned bravado.

"Hmph, if you dare not protect me, I swear I'll turn into a zombie and then come back to bite you to death!"

Watching Willett thump his chest and strike a heroic pose, Janet couldn't help but let out a snicker, then playfully threatened him, teeth gleaming.

"By the way, why haven't I been able to get in touch with you since we graduated two years ago? And how did you get so buff and handsome? How did you become so strong, whisking us up to the roof in an instant, and..."

Janet took a moment to compose herself, then began to pepper Willett with questions rapid-fire.

"Stop!"

Willett hastily signaled for her to halt, offering a wry smile. "Miss, take a look at our current predicament. Let's save the questions until we're truly safe, alright? I have no idea how you managed to attract such a horde of zombies..."

He gestured towards the vast sea of corpses below.

"Ah! There are so many! I'm not sure what's going on. Since two days ago, the zombies have been going berserk whenever they see me. I can't shake them off, and they even broke down the hotel door. If I hadn't run into you, I might have been..."

Janet finished her sentence with a shudder, patting her chest as if to calm her racing heart.

Willett's gaze lingered on Janet's chest, which quivered slightly from her light patting. He swallowed hard, thinking to himself, "She's changed so much in two years. I wonder what's caused such a... development."

After a moment's thought, he addressed her with a serious tone. "Have you experienced anything unusual these past few days? Like eating something strange or coming into contact with something?"

Janet's face turned a shade of pink as she hesitantly replied, "Two days ago, I... I got my period."

"Eh? Your aunt came to visit? How come I didn't know about this? Could the zombies have followed her to you? Where is this aunt of yours?"

Willett asked, clearly confused.

"You blockhead! 'Aunt Flo' is a euphemism for a menstrual period, you idiot!" Janet couldn't believe Willett's misunderstanding and rubbed her temples in frustration, scolding him loudly.

"Uh... my bad, my bad..."

Willett chuckled sheepishly, then playfully slapped Janet's shoulder. "It seems these zombies are drawn to the scent of blood. Their sense of smell is incredibly sharp—they can detect scents from kilometers away. Now, I'm starting to wonder if I should use you as a distraction for the zombies so I can make my escape..."

"Who do you think you're fooling? Even if I gave you eight times the courage, I doubt you'd dare..."

Willett's obvious bluff earned him an eye roll from Janet, who then spoke with a mix of disdain and frustration. "But you're right. I'm stuck here for three more days. Am I really supposed to wait on this rooftop that long? And even after my period ends, there's no guarantee these zombies will leave..."

"Hehe, I've got a clever plan."

Willett's sleazy grin spread across his face as he leaned in to whisper to Janet.

"Ah! You pervert!"

Janet slapped Willett on the head, her voice a mix of embarrassment and anger. "You actually want to use that..."

Rubbing his sore head, Willett retorted furiously, "Are you brainless? The zombies are attracted to the scent of your blood. If you don't give me that, how am I supposed to distract them?"

He shot her a look of contempt.

"Hmph, I still have it on me. Even if you use one stained with blood, you won't be able to draw the zombies away! You're such a pervert!" Janet said, utterly bewildered as she shook her head.

Willett's smug smile returned as he reached into his backpack and pulled out a bag of perfume. "I came prepared. Use this, and you won't have any scent left."

He chuckled with self-satisfaction. Seeing Janet hesitate, he lost his patience and snapped, "What are you waiting for, you foolish woman? The longer we stay, the more zombies will come. If we don't move soon, we'll be trapped. You don't want to be zombie food, do you?"

"Fine, but turn around and no peeking!"

Janet conceded, her cheeks flushed. She took the perfume and only began to apply it once Willett had turned his back.

"To peek or not to peek? That is the question..."

Willett faced no inner conflict as he made up his mind to sneak a glance. However, as he turned his head, a white fluffy object nearly made contact with his face.

"Ptui! Ptui! Touching this is a year's worth of bad luck for a man!"

Willett quickly stepped back, sealing the sanitary pad in a plastic bag before tying it tightly to the unused short spear. With a heavy heart, he murmured, "Farewell, my dear."

With every ounce of his strength, he thrust forward!

The short spear, affixed with a white sanitary pad, lodged itself beneath a distant bridge. Soon after, the zombies began to march in line toward the bridge, plummeting one after another into the abyss.

Watching the silent hordes of zombies drop from the bridge, Willett whispered in disbelief, "What a killing machine!"
