C18 Dragon Lake

In the front hall of the Vault of Wonders, Qin Ann, as slender as a bamboo pole, watched Yu Yuan with a blank expression. Clutching the Black Dragon Scissors, Yu Yuan strolled in from the backyard with an air of ease.

"I'll come visit again another day."

Yu Yuan gestured to Qin Ann, indicating there was no need for a formal send-off, and then called out towards the backyard, "Thanks a lot, Mr. Zhao. Once our families' competition concludes, I'll be sure to come by again. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, I'll be competing in the Spirit Channel level too. Please, ask the Zhao siblings to go easy on me."

"No need for formalities, shopkeeper. I'll see myself out."

With Qin Ann's lingering gaze upon him, Yu Yuan left the Vault of Wonders, as if carried by the wind.

Indeed, he had arrived empty-handed but now departed, bearing the Black Dragon Scissors!

"Boss?"

It took a while for Qin Ann to snap out of his daze. Noticing Zhao Dongsheng emerging from the backyard, he hesitated before asking, "Why did you let him walk away with the Spirit Level third level Black Dragon Scissors?"

"Don't concern yourself with matters that don't pertain to you!" Zhao Dongsheng snapped, his voice sharp and stern. "Starting now, I want you to compile every bit of information on Yu Yuan! Who he's met, what he's done over the years—I want to know it all, and in as much detail as possible!"

"Yes, sir!" Qin Ann responded, his voice barely above a whisper.

Zhao Dongsheng's bulky frame completely filled the doorway. Squinting, he watched the direction Yu Yuan had gone with a frosty gaze, muttering to himself, "Once the competition is over, if it turns out you've lied, it won't just be you facing the consequences. The entire Yu family will pay the price!"

...

In the dead of night at the Yu family residence in the city's north.

"Black Dragon Scissors, Spirit Level third grade."

Yu Yuan held the lustrous black scissors, his gaze fixed on the gemstone nestled at the intersection of the blades. He pondered, "Though this is but a replica of the Black Dragon Pearl, it subtly contains the dragon's breath. It must be the handiwork of Dragon Lake."

The Aetherius Continent and the Land of Quiescence were separated by an immense, boundless ocean, dotted with numerous islands and fraught with perilous secrets.

The Frozen Hellscape lay amidst the vast ocean, its chilling secrets hidden from the world. Within its depths, the enigmatic Dragon Lake remained shrouded in mystery, unknown to all.

Yu Yuan, who had been the Sect Master of the Order of Healing in his past life, was well aware of Dragon Lake's existence. He understood that the cultivators there humbly referred to themselves as "Dragon Attendants" and "Dragon Servants." Their practices, spells, and even their spiritual artifacts were deeply intertwined with the essence of dragons.

At Dragon Lake, the true rulers issuing commands and making decisions were not humans, but dragons—dragons of every kind.

The human cultivators at Dragon Lake were mere servants to these majestic creatures, obeying their commands and pledging their unwavering loyalty.

Among the families connected to Dragon Lake and concealed within the Aetherius Continent was the Zhao family, a small yet significant lineage.

Dragons lived for eons, and their maturation process was exceedingly slow. The awakening of their spiritual wisdom lagged far behind that of humans. The practice of "raising a dragon whelp" involved extracting a strand of the dragon's spirit and merging it with a human child. The child's innate intelligence would then accelerate the dragon's awakening, helping it to swiftly grasp the complexities of the world and the heavens, as well as the nuances of human emotions and social customs, thus enabling the dragon to achieve "psychic communication" at an early age.

Moreover, the essence of the Dragon Whelp's Soul could nourish the Dragon Whisperer, potentially allowing them to become a true cultivator of Dragon Lake in the future.

Should tragedy befall the dragon whelp, the Dragon Whelp's Soul Essence within the Dragon Whisperer could be stimulated by the secret techniques of Dragon Lake. It might even consume the Dragon Whisperer's three souls to grow stronger, thereby refining the Dragon Soul and merging it with dragon blood. This process could even resurrect a deceased dragon whelp, giving it new flesh and bones.

Zhao Yafu was one such Dragon Whisperer, chosen by Dragon Lake and infused with the spirit of a dragon whelp. If the dragon whelp were to grow and evolve successfully, Zhao Yafu would reap the benefits, eventually being led to Dragon Lake to become one of its cultivators. She would ascend to the esteemed roles of "Dragon Attendant" and "Dragon Servant."

The enigmatic Dragon Lake possessed far greater strength than any of the seven major lower sects of Euwrea.

Zhao Yafu had a promising future ahead of her, with aspirations of venturing to Dragon Lake to master advanced spells.

Regrettably, the dragon whelp, whose fate was intertwined with her own, had perished just outside Dragon Lake for reasons unknown.

Upon the whelp's death, Zhao Yafu should have been fully aware that, in accordance with the pact between Dragon Lake and the Zhao family, she was to be discreetly delivered to Dragon Lake by her family, her sacrifice securing the rebirth of the dragon whelp.

Yet, the Zhao family failed to honor their word...

They not only concealed the truth but also plotted the Dragon Devour scheme, intending for Zhao Yafu to absorb the spirit of the dragon whelp to enhance her own power.

Regardless of the outcome, the Zhao family had committed an act of betrayal against Dragon Lake!

Should this information leak, cultivators from Dragon Lake would assuredly arrive in stealth. In a single night, they would ensure the extinction of the Zhao family.

Zhao Yafu, too, would be taken by the Dragon Lake cultivators and brought back to Dragon Lake, where she would be offered in a ritual akin to a sacrifice to resurrect the ill-fated dragon whelp.

"The Zhao family must have secured a new powerful ally to dare such treachery against Dragon Lake," Yu Yuan mused with clarity. "Otherwise, they would have willingly sent Zhao Yafu to Dragon Lake as agreed."

Contemplating this, he caressed the imitation pearls inlaid at the intersection of the Black Dragon Scissors' blades with the pad of his finger.

"Nine Glories Wheel!"

As he activated the spell, strands of ethereal spiritual energy began to drift towards him, entering through his breath and pores, converging at his lower elixir field.

A soft glow burst forth from the imitation pearls!

Instantly, Yu Yuan detected tendrils of strange power emanating from the pearls, coursing through his fingertips and into his body.

This strange power surged directly toward the Golden Sanctum acupoint in his lower elixir field!

At the Golden Sanctum, a cluster of spiritual energy, no larger than nine grains of rice, swelled dramatically, shining as brightly as the morning sun.

The potency of the Channel Opening Pill was fully unleashed!

The nine luminous orbs, like nine fierce suns, circled the Golden Sanctum acupoint, creating a resplendent divine rainbow that seemed to enshrine a flood dragon within.

"Even a mere imitation of the black dragon's bead, containing but a fraction of dragon's breath, can produce such wondrous effects under the influence of the Nine Glories Wheel and the Channel Opening Pill!" Yu Yuan exclaimed in delight.

In the next instant, he concentrated his energy, harnessing a small portion of the dragon's breath within the imitation black dragon pearl to continue assaulting the Spirit Channel realm.

Soon after, he found himself gasping for air, drenched in sweat!

The dragon's breath from the black dragon, combined with the effects of the Channel Opening Pill and the operation of the Nine Glories Wheel, created a stunningly vibrant rainbow that made his meridians ache with a pain so intense it felt as though they might burst!

Yet, the process of opening his Spirit Channels became significantly more efficient!

"Aunt, my cultivation level is quite low. Just a small amount of dragon's breath, along with the Channel Opening Pill and the Nine Glories Wheel, can elevate me to a new level," Yu Yuan said through gritted teeth as he persisted in charging his meridians. "I've only borrowed a small amount of dragon's breath. Rest assured, the Black Dragon Scissors will be returned to you before the three-realm contest."

...

On the outskirts of Asvetaesi City lies Mount Aureum.

The modestly sized Mount Aureum, only a few hundred meters tall, was riddled with holes, resembling a giant honeycomb.

Miners, weary from their labor, could occasionally be seen emerging from these openings, carrying bamboo baskets filled with Aureum Stones to be recorded by the Huang family's registrars.

Aureum Stone was merely a common level two magic item. Once refined, the resulting refined iron could only be used to forge the most basic of spirit artifacts.

But even the most ordinary and low-grade magic items could accumulate to become a significant source of income.

The annual yield of Aureum Stones from Mount Aureum just outside the city represented a substantial portion of the Huang family's profits.

As such, Mount Aureum was greatly prized by the Huang family.

Halfway up the mountain, within the largest cave, luxurious furniture was arranged, and the walls were inlaid with luminous pearls that lit the space as bright as day.

"Brother Lin, what brings you to Mount Aureum, which our Huang family so diligently guards?" Huang Chen, a man of towering stature and broad shoulders, greeted him. His bare arms were sculpted with muscle, and veins glowed beneath his skin like serpents. As a fellow practitioner at the Veil Breaking Stage, he had clearly dedicated himself to physical refinement. "Heh, ever since your beloved arrived in Asvetaesi and joined the Yu family, she hasn't ceased to stir up trouble for us."

He paused briefly before continuing, "The Lin family wields considerable power, and we dare not provoke them. We've already exercised as much patience as possible. And now, you've come to us out of the blue. Are you suggesting that the Huang family should deliberately lose to the Yu family in the upcoming tri-realm tournament?"

Lin Hanyu, who had arrived alone, maintained a somewhat pale complexion. Yet, only he was aware of the true extent of his condition. The poison from the Lizard Blood Pill had been cleared, but the little world within his middle elixir field was extensively damaged. It would take a considerable amount of time to heal, and his current fighting strength was barely half of what it was at his peak.

With a loud clank, he tossed a bag onto the stone table before Huang Chen, startling him.

"Brother Lin, what is this about?" Huang Chen asked, his gaze dropping to the soulstones spilling from the bag, his expression growing grave. "These soulstones are worth half a year's yield from Mount Aureum."

"Haven't you heard any recent news from the Huang family? From just two days ago?" Lin Hanyu asked, his eyes holding a peculiar glint.

Huang Chen shook his head. "Nothing."

"Yuan Lianyao has some sense, at least. She probably silenced the Yu family and deliberately kept the news under wraps," Lin Hanyu mused silently before speaking up firmly, "I want Yu Yuan dead during the tri-realm battle among our four major families!"

Huang Chen was taken aback for a few seconds before realization dawned on him. He glanced again at the soulstones on the table and replied, "As you know, the tri-realm battles in Asvetaesi are, for the most part, non-lethal contests."

"I'm well aware," Lin Hanyu said with a cold laugh. "But if both parties consent, a fight to the death is permissible. I cannot openly defy my mother's dying wish, and with the engagement fast approaching, I wish for Yu Yuan's death! If he dies, the ridiculous marriage contract will be null and void."

Huang Chen wavered, undecided.

"Should you succeed in this, the Huang family will be considered a friend of the Lin family. And the Winter's Bite will owe the Huang family a significant favor," Lin Hanyu tempted.

The favor of Winter's Bite...

Huang Chen's eyes sparkled with resolve. "Alright! I agree to your terms. I'll talk to my son and we'll make arrangements to ensure that Yu Yuan meets his end in the upcoming Three Realms' battle!"

"Good!" Lin Hanyu exclaimed with fervor.

With Lyu Yue and Yin Jue gone, and according to Mayor Yuan Lianyao, there might be a powerful backer behind Yu Yuan. Yuan Lianyao had also cautioned him, warning both him and the Lin family against causing trouble in Asvetaesi.

Given these warnings, he decided to withdraw from Asvetaesi with his daughter Lin Zhuyun, to put Yuan Lianyao's mind at ease. Afterwards, he discreetly approached Huang Chen, seeking the Huang family's influence to openly and honorably eliminate Yu Yuan during the imminent competition of the three realms, thus removing a threat once and for all.
