C5 He Wanted to Register for the Q University!!
At this moment, all the teachers were seated in their offices, eagerly anticipating Yan Xin's arrival.
Yawning, Yan Xin made his way to Fong Guode.
Having been summoned to the office for talks countless times before, he instinctively stood at attention upon entering, bracing himself for the usual punishment of standing.
"Yan Xin, you've arrived? Please, take a seat!" Fong Guode beamed, sliding a stool toward Yan Xin.
Meanwhile, every teacher in the office was fixated on the student who had once struggled academically, curious about the sudden transformation over the past few weeks that led to his remarkable improvement.
Could a student who consistently ranked last actually become a top performer?
Doubts certainly clouded Fong Guode's mind. Yan Xin was known for his love of sleep, so how did his grades soar to the top ten of the grade on the most recent mock exam?
Yet, after reviewing the surveillance footage with the director of the Education Bureau the previous day, Fong Guode saw no evidence of cheating; Yan Xin had been diligently working on his test the entire time.
"Professor, did you need to see me for something?" Yan Xin asked, feeling uneasy under the intense scrutiny of so many teachers, uncomfortable on the stool.
"Don't be nervous. I'm just curious about your recent study habits. Your grades have improved so dramatically. Is there anything you'd like to share with me?" Fong Guode asked, still smiling.
Yan Xin could only shake his head in resignation.
He had already pondered this unexpected turn of events. His sudden leap to second place in the grade certainly warranted an explanation.
But he had intentionally answered three comprehensive science questions incorrectly!
How could the other students be so far behind that he still managed to secure the second spot in the grade?
Yan Xin's brow furrowed as he reviewed his scores on the report card: 135 in language, 145 in English, 150 in mathematics, and 280 in science—a grand total of 710 points.
And there, just above him in the grade rankings, was Lin Hui with a mere two points more, at 712.
His total score was just a hair's breadth away from Lin Hui's.
"There's nothing to share! I'm a genius! The potential of a person is boundless," Yan Xin declared, a confident smile playing on his lips.
The teachers in the room were at a loss for words. How could he speak like that?
He was just trying to act cool.
Fong Guode cleared his throat awkwardly. "Our school has secured recommendation slots for admission to prestigious universities across Dragon Country. Despite your previous poor performance, your recent mock exam results could be your ticket in. Are you willing to give it a shot?"
Could he really have a shot at getting into a top university?
He definitely wanted to apply!
He had become a true top student!
His past academic struggles were behind him; with the system in hand, securing a recommendation spot seemed within reach.
"Teacher, I'd like to apply!"
Fong Guode's smile broadened with a nod. With Zhang Ze included, his class boasted two students in the top ten for grades!
The other homeroom teachers were green with envy.
They were clueless about the sudden improvement in Yan Xin's exam scores, but the impressive results spoke for themselves.
"Great! I'll look into it for you. Lin Hui is aiming for Q University, Zhang Ze is also interested in Q University, Lee Shuo is considering Jingdu University of Finance and Trade. Yan Xin, which university are you thinking about?"
"I'm aiming for Q University!"
His declaration was astonishing!
Truthfully, Fong Guode had no reservations about Lin Hui applying to Q University; even though she hadn't done her best this time, she usually scored around 730 points. But Yan Xin's chances at Q University seemed slim.
The admission score for Q University in D Province hovered around 720 points. If Yan Xin didn't score well in the preliminary recommendation review, he'd be squandering the opportunity.
Zhang Ze, however, had family connections, and his scores were close enough to the cutoff to not be a concern.
"Q University! I didn't do too well on the English exam this time. Had I known this was coming, I would've put more effort into my essay. I'm just not up to par!" Yan Xin said, shaking his head in resignation.
The teachers in the office were stunned!
His arrogance was off the charts!
A 145 in English was a low score?
He lost points on his essay, but aced the objective questions!
Yan Xin was actually dissatisfied with his score?
"Teacher, if there's nothing else, I'll head back now. I still need to go through that practice set for the third time!" Yan Xin said, offering a polite smile before pushing the door open and stepping out.
Fong Guode was rendered speechless on the spot.
Could this really be the Yan Xin he knew?
He had actually tackled the practice problems three times?
Was Yan Xin getting a bit too cocky?
Exiting the office, Yan Xin glanced at the data on the system interface and straightened his clothes and tie.
Lured by the enticing skills available in the system store, Yan Xin resolved that it was time for a change in his study habits! He was ready to hit the books!
The sun had dipped below the horizon, casting a soft glow as the campus lights flickered on.
Yan City No.1 High School, a prestigious institution in Y City, kept its library study rooms open late to provide a conducive environment for the seniors to revise.
But the decision to study there was entirely voluntary.
Yan Xin, once a student with subpar grades, hadn't set foot in the library for three years!
After rummaging through his things for quite some time, he finally unearthed his library access card.
Staring at the faded photo on the card, Yan Xin scratched his head in bemusement.
With his study materials in order, Yan Xin slung his backpack over his shoulder and made his way to the library.
The chill of the season had abated, and the sports fields were bustling with people playing soccer and basketball. Yan Xin had once been among them.
A soccer ball sailed towards him from a distance. Skillfully trapping it with his right foot, he pivoted and sent the ball flying back into play.
"Yan Xin! Come play soccer!"
The call came from Rong Huaze, a plump figure who was Yan Xin's close friend from both middle and high school.
The old adage was true: like attracts like, and Rong Huaze was no academic star.
Otherwise, he wouldn't be out here playing soccer during such a critical time in their senior year.
Yan Xin gestured dismissively, "No thanks! I'm off to the library to study!"
"Has a soccer ball knocked some sense into me? You're studying?" Rong Huaze gaped at Yan Xin, bewildered.
"Don't you know I ranked second in the whole grade?" Yan Xin rolled his eyes, exasperated that Rong Huaze never bothered with the honor roll.
"I did hear about that. Well, go hit the books then! I'm off to play soccer. Studying's such a drag!" With that, Fatty Rong trotted back to the field.
Fatty Rong had never been one for hitting the books, so Yan Xin's achievement of second place in the entire grade barely registered with him.
However, had Yan Xin boasted about his high scores in last night's gaming session, Fatty Rong would have been all ears, eager to engage in a spirited discussion.
With a smile, Yan Xin turned and made his way to the library.
Gazing upon the well-lit library, a sense of both familiarity and strangeness washed over him. Typically, Yan Xin would be either out on the soccer field or engrossed in a computer game at this hour.
Now, standing at the library's entrance, a flood of emotions swirled within him.
He inhaled deeply and ascended the steps at a measured pace, pushed the door open, and stepped inside.
Yan Xin was taken aback by what he saw.
Though only a glass wall separated the library's interior from the outside, it felt like stepping into an entirely different realm.
The tiled floor at the entrance was laden with books of all sorts. The main hall was filled with senior students engrossed in their studies—some bent over their work, others reciting from memory with eyes shut.
Yan Xin, hesitating at the doorway, seemed conspicuously out of place.
He quickly shouldered his backpack and made his way to the study room, where rows of students were immersed in quiet study.
Confronted with fully occupied tables, Yan Xin pressed on until he reached the farthest corner of the study room, where he finally spotted an available seat at a large table designed to accommodate four.
With only two seats taken, Yan Xin seized the opportunity to settle into an empty spot, pulled out his books, and got ready to tackle his homework.
"Classmate, who are you?"
A tall silhouette loomed behind Yan Xin.
