C1 Top Student!!
At Yan City No.1 High School, in the senior year's first class, the countdown to the college entrance exam, scrawled in red chalk in the upper right corner of the blackboard, was impossible to miss. Just 60 days remained.
Math teacher Fong Guode was passionately lecturing from the podium, his spit nearly reaching the students in the front row. He was determined to cram every bit of mathematical knowledge into these kids' heads in the remaining two months.
Meanwhile, at the back of the room, Yan Xin was out like a light.
Indeed, Yan Xin's academic performance was far from stellar.
"I'm going to say this one more time! There are only two methods to determine the relationship between a straight line and a circle! You must get this straight," Fong Guode insisted.
But before he could finish, Yan Xin interrupted him—albeit unintentionally.
The class turned to look, puzzled, as they saw Yan Xin still face-down on his desk, mumbling in his sleep.
Yan Xin was sleep-talking again!
"Yan Xin! Stand up!" Fong Guode demanded, his voice tinged with anger.
"Huh? What's up? Is class over? I've got to grab some lunch!" Yan Xin exclaimed, jumping to his feet and bolting for the door with his backpack in tow.
"Stop right there, class isn't over!" Fong Guode was livid. If he weren't a teacher, he'd have let loose a string of expletives by now.
The class erupted into laughter.
"Yan Xin! With the college entrance exam only two months away, you're sleeping through class? How do you plan to get into college? How will you repay your parents? A donkey could solve math problems better than you!" Fong Guode had found the perfect analogy as he glared at Yan Xin.
"That's not good. What if the donkey kicks my deskmate?" Yan Xin quipped, prompting another wave of laughter from his classmates.
Realizing the room was getting out of hand, Fong Guode cleared his throat to regain control. "Get back to your seat! Now, tell me, who is credited with the law of cosines?"
The law of cosines?
Yan Xin scratched his head, puzzled. "Could it be Uzi?"
The classroom buzzed with renewed energy.
"What are you talking about?" Fong Guode, at his wit's end, hurled a piece of chalk at Yan Xin's head.
After being struck by a piece of chalk, Yan Xin lay on the ground.
System: "Aptitude confirmed. The Omnipotent Learning God System is now activated and binding to you!"

System Loading Progress: 99%
System Activation Complete!
Unaware of the events transpiring outside, Yan Xin could only hear a mechanical voice echoing in his mind.
He wondered, "Was I chosen by the system?"
The Learning God System?
Typically, isn't the Learning God System reserved for top students? Yet here he was, the perennial bottom-dweller of his class, somehow garnering the attention of the Omnipotent Learning God System?
"Open the system interface!"
System: "Interface activated!"
Host: Yan Xin
Learning God Level: Lv 0

Yan Xin's expression soured.
"What's the purpose of these points?" he inquired, eyeing the system.
"As a first-time activation bonus, you've been awarded 100 points. Points can be earned through missions and the level of admiration you receive from those around you. Missions are assigned randomly. You can redeem points for rewards in the system store! A Newbie Gift Bag has been detected. Would you like to open it?"
"Open it!"
"Congratulations, you've acquired the Photographic Memory skill!"
Does this mean he could now remember anything he saw?
"To ensure your ascent to the pinnacle of academic success, the system prohibits any intimate contact with the opposite sex until you've earned your PhD. Failure to comply will result in termination by the System!"
What?
Yan Xin was utterly flabbergasted.
What was this system implying?
He couldn't have any intimate contact with the opposite sex until he got his PhD?
And if he did, he would be terminated?
He might not have been a stellar student, but he considered himself a decent guy—he'd even helped an elderly lady cross the street before!
Yan Xin did some quick math. If he actually managed to get into college and pursue a doctorate, he was looking at a decade of singledom.
"I've had it with this system! I'd rather have a girlfriend than be a top student. I refuse to be inexplicably erased!" Yan Xin protested.
"The system represents the most advanced learning method of the future! Once you're bound to it, there's no turning back," the system's icy voice echoed in Yan Xin's mind.
This system seemed hell-bent on keeping him single for a decade!
While Yan Xin was pondering how to fast-track his PhD, chaos erupted among the other students and Fong Guode in the classroom.
Fong Guode hadn't thought he exerted much force. Why was Yan Xin still on the floor, not getting up?
"Hey! Yan Xin, come on, wake up! Are you okay?" Fong Guode was beside himself with worry. He crouched down and opened his mouth, attempting artificial respiration in hopes of reviving him.
As Yan Xin's eyes fluttered open, he was met with Fong Guode leaning in close!
"What a creep you are!" Yan Xin blurted out as he sprang to his feet.
Fong Guode tumbled to the ground. Yet his only thought was, "Thank goodness Yan Xin is alright!"
"Class, please get back to your seats, and we'll proceed with the lesson," Fong Guode announced, still shaken from the scare Yan Xin had given him.
Yan Xin settled into his seat, relieved he'd woken up in time to save his first kiss from Fong Guode's unintended advance.
Could this system actually be for real? It claimed he now possessed a skill that allowed him to remember anything he saw. Why not put it to the test right away?
Yan Xin flipped open his high school math review book, his gaze landing on the section about trigonometric functions.
Studying seemed surprisingly straightforward. Even math problems weren't so tough. With his newfound ability to retain knowledge, it all became a breeze.
Armed with this skill, learning was a walk in the park. In just ten minutes, Yan Xin had reviewed and memorized the entire trigonometric functions section!
His desk mate, Liu Ying, noticed him intently scanning the review guide and sensed something was off. "Yan Xin, you haven't been knocked senseless by that chalk dust, have you? What's gotten into you to start studying all of a sudden?"
Yan Xin just raised an eyebrow and continued to ignore her.
Liu Ying decided to leave him be.
"Students! This comprehensive trigonometric function problem is a good one. Who would like to come up and solve it on the board?" Fong Guode scanned the room, but no one seemed eager to volunteer.
This problem may not look challenging, but it requires students to have a grasp of a broad range of knowledge to solve it.
"Earn 5 points by solving the problem on the blackboard, courtesy of the system!"
Mission accepted!
"Me."
Yan Xin might not have known what the points were good for, but they were a reward from the Learning God System, after all! Such incentives were always irresistible to teenagers.
Fong Guode was taken aback as he saw the hand shoot up from the back row.
Throughout his entire high school career, Yan Xin had never once volunteered an answer. What had gotten into him today?
Could it be that a stray piece of chalk had knocked some sense into him?
