C6 Chapter 6

"Dong, what do we do now?" Lil' Wang's legs trembled as she glanced outside the door, her tongue tied in knots, making her speech clumsy.

Chen Dong, reclining on the sofa with his eyes closed, rested and gestured dismissively, "No need."

If they weren't going back to the Lee family, then so be it.

Lee Susu had taken Chu Yun to the hospital, leaving Chen Dong at the hotel. He found the place quite comfortable. He had just settled into the sofa for a nap when he was abruptly shaken awake.

To rouse Dongdong was to flirt with disaster, but Lil' Wang had no choice. Mopping his brow, he stammered, "Dongdong, your sister-in-law has been kidnapped."

Lee Susu kidnapped?

"Oh." Chen Dong shut his eyes again, not even a twitch in his brow as he shifted to a more comfortable position on the sofa.

Lil' Wang, bewildered by such indifference to his wife's plight, hesitated before asking, "Aren't you going to rescue her?"

"No rescue." Chen Dong remained unmoved, his voice detached.

Lil' Wang was at a loss for words.

Chen Dong felt a familiar frustration; he was certain this was a hangover from his past self. It was pathetic. He had extended a helping hand to that woman, only to be repaid with scorn. Did she think Chen Dong had no temper?

She needed to learn that Chen Dong wasn't someone to be trifled with.

Soon after, the hotel room phone rang. Lil' Wang had been standing guard at the door since Chen Dong had settled in. Hearing the ring, he hurried to answer.

After a brief exchange, Lil' Wang covered the receiver, looking troubled. "Dong."

"Mhm." Chen Dong took the phone, his wife's cries of terror confirming her identity. He narrowed his eyes and calmly inquired, "What's the matter?"

"Your wife is now in my hands, Chen Dong. Get yourself to the top floor of Central Hospital immediately," Chu Yun's voice sneered through the line, tinged with near madness. "Otherwise, I'll throw your wife off the edge."

"No, no, no..."

Upon hearing the warning, the frantic wife screamed in terror. Chen Dong could vividly picture her face drained of color, her fear palpable. The shrill cries made his eardrums throb as he ended the call with icy detachment.

Lil' Long was at a loss for words.

Chen Dong had to admit he was livid. He'd risked everything for a woman who seemed utterly unappreciative, and it infuriated him to the core.

Chu Yun probably hadn't anticipated such a blunt hang-up and, not willing to let it go, he redialed several times. Lil' Long, holding the incessantly ringing phone, was a bundle of nerves.

This time, it wasn't the landline but the cell phone that rang. Chen Dong pulled out his phone and heard his mother-in-law's voice, to which he responded with a soothing tone, "Mom."

Wang Lifang was beside herself with worry, her words tumbling out incoherently. "Dongdong, Susu has been kidnapped. What do we do? What do we do?"

Chen Dong felt a headache coming on. Lee Susu's personality was so tricky that he sometimes wondered if she really was his mother-in-law's daughter. Clearing his throat, he reassured her, "Don't worry, I'm already on my way to the hospital."

After offering a few more comforting words to his mother-in-law, he abruptly ended the call. Lil' Long, sitting nearby, couldn't help but scoff internally; Chen Dong was still lounging on the sofa, yet he claimed to be en route.

Rising from the sofa, Chen Dong stretched his shoulders and signaled to Lil' Long with a glance, "Get the car ready."

Having dealt with Chu Yun on several occasions, Chen Dong knew the man was just trying to save face after feeling slighted by him.

Chu Yun wouldn't dare touch Lee Susu unless Chen Dong showed up.

Upon reaching the entrance of Central Hospital, they were met with a throng of onlookers, all craning their necks and murmuring amongst themselves. On the rooftop, two silhouettes teetered precariously.

Recognizing the figures, Chen Dong was certain it was Chu Yun and Lee Susu.

He stepped out of the car, slamming the door behind him, while Lil' Long and a group emerged from the vehicle, swiftly parting the crowd to forge a path.

"Thank you." Chen Dong murmured as he brushed past Lil' Long. A fair-weather friend is just that, but Lil' Long did have a keen eye.

For a moment, Lil' Long wondered if he was mistaken. Did Dong actually thank him?

Before he could be sure, Chen Dong had already entered Central Hospital.

Shortly after Chen Dong's arrival, police cars and a swarm of reporters descended on the building, crowding the area below.

"This is an entertainment news report. A man is holding a woman hostage on the rooftop of Central Hospital."

"Oh my god! There's actually a man on the rooftop. Isn't he biting off more than he can chew?"

Wang Lifang heard the reporter's harsh words as she hurried over. Age had taken its toll, and she couldn't handle the stress. The scene before her brought her to tears, "Susu..."

Chen Dong, with his exceptional senses, could hear everything from the front, even Wang Lifang's cries, which gave him a headache.

The elevator reached the top floor, but the entrance to the rooftop was blocked by doctors and nurses. Chen Dong touched his nose, wondering how he was going to get through.

"Where's Chen Dong? Tell him to come quickly! Otherwise, this woman dies here!" Chu Yun, who had met his match, was on the brink of insanity. His eyes were red with bloodshot veins, and his bandages were a disheveled mess on the ground. Still, he inched closer to the rooftop's edge, woman in tow.

Looking down, one could see a foot dangling over the edge. Lee Susu, a formidable woman in her company, had never faced a situation like this.

Paralyzed with fear, her teeth chattered, and she turned ashen. She was limp and pliable, completely at Chu Yun's mercy.

Lee Susu realized too late that she was mistaken to have brought Chu Yun to the hospital.

Chu Yun deserved a good thrashing!

He had it coming!

But what good was regret now?

"Hasn't that damn Chen Dong shown up yet?" This was Chu Yun's first time in such a dire situation, and it had pushed him over the edge. He had been a force to be reckoned with for years, only to be utterly humiliated by a man who appeared out of nowhere, and now he was seething with the desire to plunge a knife into Chen Dong to quell his burning resentment.

"Listen up, upstairs! You still have time to regret your actions. Otherwise, you'll face the consequences..." The police officer below was blaring through a megaphone, warning of the severe repercussions for any heinous acts committed.

Chu Yun spat disdainfully toward the ground below before pulling out his cell phone, his palm slick with cold sweat. As he tried to dial Chen Dong's number, the phone slipped from his grasp and crashed to the floor. "Damn it!"

Bending down to retrieve his phone was out of the question for Chu Yun, but suddenly, a ringtone pierced the tense air from the crowd blocking the stairway entrance.

With a menacing grin, Chu Yun's gaze locked onto a specific spot in the crowd. "You've arrived."

The doctors and nurses felt a chill run down their spines under his intense scrutiny, hastily parting to reveal Chen Dong's figure stepping forward.
