C47 Lady Boss Is a Fool
What was the Third Elder initially thinking?
He was intent on killing Mo Changyou, the man responsible for his son's death.
However, the situation has changed. Patriarch Qian of the Qian family has sustained severe injuries, and Mo Yanglin suspects that the Patriarch might remain in a vegetative state for the rest of his life.
Despite his current anger towards Mo Changyou, he knew he had to send Qian Hai back for medical attention. If he didn't, the Qian family would come looking for him.
Once the crowd dispersed, Mo Changyou's eyes landed on a young girl in a yellow dress not far away, and he gave her a slight nod.
"I've secured the Snow Lotus. Now, take me to the place in Black Rock City where I can prepare the medicine," Mo Changyou said, giving Mo Yunyun's shoulder a gentle pat.
"Speaking of which, what was that lightning all about?" Mo Yunyun was still reeling from the shock. She marveled at Mo Changyou's exceptional debating skills and his ability to wield lightning.
"Qian Hai is fortunate; he's on the verge of mastering the Inscription. If not for that, the lightning would have been enough to kill him," Mo Changyou acknowledged.
Indeed, it was Mo Yunyun's thrown stone that had been pivotal in Qian Hai's near demise.
Furthermore, Mo Changyou found it easy to read this young girl.
"There's something I still don't understand. Don't you concoct your own medicines? Why not do it directly at the Mo family residence?" Mo Yunyun asked, her brow furrowed in confusion.
"Think about it, does the Mo family possess a Pill Furnace of Grade Three or higher? Without such a Pill Furnace, how can I possibly prepare the medicine?" Mo Changyou responded, shaking his head.
Mo Yunyun nodded in understanding.
They traversed the long streets and alleys until they finally stood before a shop that looked rather forlorn, bearing the sign "Heaven."
"The 'Heaven' Rank shop struggles because the owner has a notorious temper, and the prices she sets are steep. Most ordinary folks simply can't afford her goods. The owner is a Grade Three Alchemist and is known for her striking beauty. Several elders from the major families harbor a secret fondness for her," Mo Yunyun explained, her pretty face showing a hint of nervousness at the mention of the owner's infamous temper.
Whether the owner would agree to lend them the Pill Furnace was another matter entirely.
Upon entering the shop, they were greeted by a single waiter. The waiter, out of habit, glanced over the newcomers and frowned slightly upon seeing the two youthful disciples.
"They're out of luck," the waiter murmured to himself.
The owner's prices were steep. When she was in a good mood, she'd concoct pills and sell some quality medicinal herbs. But if she wasn't feeling it, not even the Patriarchs of the three great families could persuade her to do business.
"Today, the boss isn't making medicine, and besides, you can't afford it," the waiter interjected before Mo Changyou and Mo Yunyun could speak.
The waiter's temper seemed to be as foul as the boss's.
"I'm not here to buy medicine or to have the owner refine any. I need to borrow a Pill Furnace," Mo Changyou stated.
"To borrow a Pill Furnace? It's thirty spirit stones for a day's use of a Grade One Pill Furnace, and fifty for a Grade Two," the waiter informed.
Considering that no one else in Black Rock City could produce a Grade Three Medicine Pill besides the boss, he didn't bother mentioning the cost for a Grade Three Pill Furnace.
"How much per day for a Grade Three Pill Furnace?" Mo Yunyun inquired.
"I'm the only one in Black Rock City with a Grade Three Pill Furnace, and I won't lend it to you," a veiled woman declared, emerging from behind a curtain. Her posture was regal, her maturity surpassing that of Mo Yunyun.
Her ample bosom accentuated her allure.
Clearly, she was the proprietor of the "Heaven" Rank establishment.
Mo Yunyun's expression darkened slightly; she was in dire need of a remedy for her Qi Deviation.
"You may as well leave. I'm not lending my Grade Three Pill Furnace to you. Moreover, you two don't seem meticulous enough. Using my Grade Three Pill Furnace would be wasteful," she said with an air of authority.
"Is it not wasteful for you to use this Grade Three Pill Furnace to produce subpar Beauty Retaining Pills? It's the first time I've been told that my use of a Pill Furnace is wasteful!" Mo Changyou retorted with indignation.
"There's a foul odor here. You've tried to make a Grade Three Youth Preserving Pill, haven't you? You're a fool for not mastering the flame control. The crucial aspect of making the Youth Preserving Pill is the heat applied to the liquid. Too much heat, and the pill's efficacy plummets. If I'm not mistaken, you've blown up the Pill Furnace three times while refining, right?" Mo Changyou continued, sparing her no respect.
"Shut up! How dare you show such disrespect to our Lady Boss! Do you realize that even the Patriarch of your own family wouldn't dare to cause a commotion in her presence? You're asking for trouble!" The waiter slammed his hand on the table emphatically.
He had the audacity to reprimand the Lady Boss on matters of alchemy. Was he unaware that she is the most formidable Alchemist in Black Rock City?
Mo Yunyun tugged at Mo Changyou's sleeve, visibly worried that the Lady Boss might lose her temper, especially since the waiter's claims were true—this Lady Boss truly was the most powerful Alchemist in Black Rock City.
"Using a Grade Three Pill Furnace is simply wasteful. And those black lines under your nails? They're from when you grabbed at the flames while concocting the Heavenly Flame Pill, aren't they? That's just foolish," Mo Changyou said, shaking his head in disdain.
He took Mo Yunyun's hand, intending to leave the scene.
The waiter's face darkened with anger.
What was he spouting? On what grounds was he critiquing the Lady Boss?
"I'll break your legs on behalf of our Lady Boss!" the waiter bellowed, charging at Mo Changyou. But in an instant, the Lady Boss intervened, grabbing hold of him. Her eyes were wide with astonishment.
Just by scent, Mo Changyou had identified the pill she was making, and a single glance at her hands revealed her lack of finesse in temperature control. Even her own master hadn't possessed such skill.
His comments were harsh but undeniably accurate.
The Lady Boss blinked, looking at Mo Changyou with a mix of respect and amazement. She began to wonder if he might be the reincarnation of a Medicine God.
His pointed observations led her to believe he must indeed be a master Alchemist.
"Don't be rude to an Alchemist Master!" the Lady Boss reprimanded the waiter sharply.
