C19 Escape

Chu Tianyu remained on high alert, well aware that he was facing a Level Nine expert, the most formidable adversary he had encountered to date. Despite the searing pain throughout his body and the overwhelming fatigue, he knew he couldn't afford to stop.

His resolve had only strengthened after his rebirth; giving up was not in his nature.

With a sudden "thud," Chu Tianyu misstepped into thin air, his body uncontrollably tumbling down a steep incline. It was an unexpected obstacle, and with his energy depleted from the earlier escape, he could do nothing but watch himself roll helplessly downward.

Remembering Qin Ming was behind him, Tianyu seized the moment to wrap his arms around her, shielding her from the jagged rocks as they rolled.

It was the instinctive act of a man, unrelated to anything else; he couldn't stand idly by and let a woman come to harm.

Qin Ming was deeply touched by his protective embrace. She hadn't anticipated that Tianyu would continue to safeguard her so fiercely, willing to sustain injuries himself to keep her safe. Even though she was immobilized, her physical strength was formidable, far surpassing Tianyu's.

She accepted his protection without protest, silently savoring the unexpected tenderness amidst the chaos.

The slope was treacherous, strewn with loose stones and brambles. Tianyu's once-dignified robe was now in tatters, leaving him looking more destitute than a beggar. His arms, back, legs, and even his face were lacerated, bloodied as if he had been plucked from a pool of blood.

Despite the agony that wracked his body, Tianyu refused to cry out. Clenching his teeth, he bore the excruciating pain in silence.

For Tianyu, having cheated death at the hands of a Level Nine expert was a victory in itself. What more could he possibly ask for?

He silently recited the Vajra Sutra, focusing on his cultivation technique to distract from the pain. Initially, there was no response, his meridians felt hollow. But after several attempts, Tianyu finally managed to engage his cultivation technique. It was painstakingly slow, yet it filled him with an extraordinary sense of relief and joy.

A faint stream of Genuine Qi slowly coursed through the expansive meridians, traveling through each one until it reached the dantian, then flowed out again. Wherever it passed, a tingling sensation followed, significantly easing the pain.

Chu Tianyu was utterly absorbed, oblivious to the pain, the steep slope, lost in the intricate world of his meridians.

Time became indistinct until, with a resounding crash, they slammed into a stone wall and both lost consciousness.

Qin Ming had been relentlessly pursued by Duan Dali for miles on end, surviving a battle to the death. She had even detonated her magic tool, damaging her Divine Sense, leaving her incredibly weak and in a protective deep sleep.

Chu Tianyu had been cultivating tirelessly, his spirit worn to exhaustion. Carrying Qin Ming, he had raced for miles, driven only by his instinct to survive, which would have faltered long ago without his sheer determination. Now, even in unconsciousness, his body continued to automatically cycle the cultivation technique, drawing in the surrounding spiritual energy.

After an indeterminate time, awareness crept back, and Chu Tianyu's eyes fluttered open.

Warmth suffused his body, brimming with strength and free of pain, lifting his spirits immensely.

Lifting his head, he was greeted by a swath of purple—Qin Ming's clothing. Memories of their frantic escape and tumble down the slope flooded back, and concern for her well-being gnawed at him.

Qin Ming had previously used a dragon bone to deflect Duan Dali's lethal strike, but some residual force had still managed to shred the front of her clothes. In the heat of their escape, there had been no time to change, presenting Chu Tianyu with an unexpected view.

A jolt ran through Chu Tianyu, a mix of exhilaration and a guilty conscience, as he noticed a pair of bright eyes ablaze with fury not far off.

Qin Ming's rage flared, yet upon recognizing the young man who had saved her life, her anger inexplicably receded, replaced by a surge of gratitude.

This young man was unlike any other; he had risked his life to rescue her from the clutches of a Level Nine expert. He had stood by her side unwaveringly, and he had chosen to suffer injuries himself rather than let her be harmed.

"Consider it a form of repayment," Qin Ming reassured herself, feeling her anger subside. In the past, anyone who dared treat her in such a way, whether they were a noble, immensely powerful, or a prodigious talent, would have met an early demise.

Chu Tianyu inwardly cursed his carelessness. He hadn't realized that his master was right before him and had been caught in the act. Anxiety washed over him as he faced the Level Nine expert. Though he was unsure how much of her strength had returned, he knew that even at her weakest, she could end him with a mere breath.

"Um, I'm sorry," he said, offering no excuses, no attempts to leverage gratitude, and no pleas for mercy. He acknowledged his mistake, knowing that a true man faces his errors and accepts the consequences.

Qin Ming took a deep breath, her features softening as she gazed upon his bloodied, anxious face. A pang of pain struck her heart, and her anger was replaced by compassion.

"Are you still in pain?" she asked, her touch gentle as she reached out to his bloodstained face, her voice softer than ever.

Chu Tianyu felt a sense of calm wash over him, and his panic subsided. "No, it doesn't hurt anymore. It healed a long time ago."

"That's good to hear." Realizing her gesture might have been too intimate, Qin Ming quickly withdrew her hand, a blush creeping up her neck. Though dust obscured her face, it was clear that she was even more flustered now.

They fell into a momentary silence.

"Could you... could you stand up first?" she asked.

Feeling a rush of warmth, Chu Tianyu mentally chastised himself for his weakness. He hastily climbed off Qin Ming and looked up, as if the view above was more captivating than any landscape.

With the vast emptiness around them, Qin Ming turned away and retrieved a fresh set of clothes from her storage bag, changing into them with swift efficiency.

"You can turn around now," Qin Ming said, having changed into a pristine white palace dress that made her look exceptionally lovely.

Chu Tianyu, however, was preoccupied with battling the raging current and had no leisure to admire her beauty.

"Is something the matter? Are you feeling alright?" Qin Ming's concern was piqued by Chu Tianyu's odd behavior.

"It's nothing. I'm perfectly fine."

"Then why are you looking up? Did you spot something?" Curious, Qin Ming tried to follow his gaze, but she saw nothing out of the ordinary.

"Just some random thoughts," Chu Tianyu replied nonchalantly, eager to hide his mortifying nosebleed from her view.

A memory of a dried drop of blood on the snowy peak flashed through Qin Ming's mind. She connected the dots with Chu Tianyu's peculiar actions, amused by her realization, yet she chose not to call attention to it.

Eventually, as the nosebleed subsided, Chu Tianyu lowered his head. The woman before him stood tall, her white palace dress barely containing her striking figure. Despite the layer of dust on her face, the contours alone revealed a visage capable of captivating any nation.

Circling around, Chu Tianyu's eyes involuntarily settled on her ample chest, as if he could peer through the fabric to the exquisite view beyond.

"Where... where are you looking?" Qin Ming's words carried a hint of threat, but lacked any real conviction. In Chu Tianyu's presence, she lost all the pride of a Level Nine expert, appearing as vulnerable as any ordinary girl.

Chu Tianyu offered an awkward smile. "Where did you get your outfit?" His gaze shifted to her waist. He had his suspicions, as Chu Nan possessed something similar, but he wasn't certain.

"Oh, this? It's called a storage bag. It can hold quite a bit," Qin Ming explained, gesturing to the ornate little pouch at her side.

Chu Tianyu had guessed correctly about Qin Ming's notable background. Still, he refrained from asking her to show him the contents of her storage bag, believing that they weren't close enough to share such personal items. Even close friends wouldn't reveal their valuables so readily.

Scanning their surroundings, Qin Ming's expression grew concerned. "Hey, do you have any idea where we are?"

"I'm not a 'Hey.' My name is Chu Tianyu," he corrected her with a hint of irritation.

"Oh, that's quite a nice name," Qin Ming observed, her beautiful eyes scrutinizing Chu Tianyu with interest. She hadn't expected such a disheveled young man to possess such an appealing name.

"Chu Tianyu, your clothes are in shreds. Do you have anything else to change into?"

Chu Tianyu glanced down and saw the truth of her words. His clothes had been slightly worn before, but after tumbling down the mountain, they had been torn by numerous stones and thorns to the point of being ragged. His lean frame was now visible through the tatters, but it was smeared with blood and grime, adding to his unkempt appearance.

Feeling a blush creep onto her cheeks, Qin Ming turned her head away, embarrassed.
