C11 Overbearing Mr Jun

"Old man, what are you blabbering about? You make it sound like we're trying to extort you. Just look at yourself; you're so destitute, you're barely scraping by. Why would we bother extorting you? Now, hurry up, kneel down, and lick Mr. Jun's shoes clean. If you do that, we'll consider the matter settled."

Yun Buhui, who had just pushed his way through the crowd, was seething with anger when he heard this. He couldn't believe that his father was being harassed like this. With his current martial prowess, he could easily teach these bullies a lesson. But he knew that in a society governed by law, resorting to violence would be wrong.

His eyes darted around as he quickly devised a plan. Making his way through the throng, he arrived just in time to hear Mr. Jun's belligerent tirade: "Listen here, old man, make it snappy. I don't have all day to listen to your nonsense. It's bad enough you're not watching where you're going, but to talk back to me? Pah! What are you even worth?" With that, he spat on the ground disdainfully.

At that very moment, Yun Buhui charged in, and the spit landed right on his shoes. Of course, this was no accident. At his current level of the Vortex Stage, such a feat was simple for him and could be executed without drawing any attention.

"Good heavens! Have you no decency? How dare you spit on my shoes? Do you realize these are cherished heirlooms in my family? Now they're sullied because of you. Can you even afford to compensate for that? Enough talk, kneel down and clean my shoes with your tongue. Then we can put this behind us. Otherwise, none of you will be walking out of here on your own two feet!"

After his declaration, Yun Buhui cast a glance at a nearby window, noting the steel-reinforced iron bars outside. But before he could act further, Mr. Jun erupted in fury.

"Who the hell are you? Do you have any idea who I am? You've got some nerve trying to scam me. You should've done your homework. Mention my name, 'Overlord Mr. Jun', and see if there's anyone in the county who doesn't recognize it. Where did you crawl out from? Scram! And don't let me catch you around here again. Otherwise, you won't be leaving the way you came in—understand?"

After Mr. Jun had his say, the crowd of onlookers couldn't resist murmuring to each other, "So this is the guy they call Mr. Jun, the Overlord? He's bad news. Engaging in all sorts of underhanded deeds, he may steer clear of major crimes, but he's constantly involved in petty ones. He's been on the police radar numerous times, but since he's never been caught in a major offense, they haven't locked him up yet."

But as Mr. Jun's piercing gaze swept across them, the whispers abruptly ceased. Good folks generally avoid conflict with thugs like him. They have their own lives to live and don't need the hassle. Provoking such a person could only lead to trouble without any benefit, not to mention a whole lot of unwanted drama.

"Mr. Jun, is it? It doesn't matter who you are, I'm telling you now, since you've dirtied my family heirloom shoes, you're going to compensate me. If you're not willing to kneel and clean them with your tongue, then you'll have to pay up. Five million flat. These shoes are yours for five million. If you can't cough up the cash, then get down on your knees and start licking—enough with your excuses."

"Kid, you've got guts! You know, in all of Celestial River County, you're the first to speak to me like that. You've got nerve, and if I don't leave you looking like a blossoming mountain peony, then you must be made of something sturdy," Mr. Jun declared. With a wave of his hand, the young men by his side stepped forward.

At that moment, Yun Jie finally grasped the situation, his face etched with astonishment as he looked at his son standing protectively in front of him. His heart was filled with concern; he wished for nothing more than for Buhui to make a quick exit. It was only a matter of licking shoes—something he would willingly do himself to keep his son out of harm's way.

But before he could voice his thoughts, Buhui had already moved to the window, seizing a steel bar from the outside. With a single forceful tug, accompanied by a crisp snap, he wrenched the bar free. The steel bar hadn't been welded to the frame but was instead threaded through holes in a square pipe on either side.

Yun Buhui exerted his strength and impressively bent the steel bar, effortlessly pulling it out. He then held the bar in his hand, deftly manipulating it. Before the astounded onlookers, he balanced the steel bar on his finger, skillfully winding it around.

In a mere moment, the meter-long steel rod had been transformed into a spring and cast onto the ground, emitting a resounding clang. The would-be assailants, witnessing this feat, were petrified, their faces contorted as they stared at Yun Buhui.

"I was wrong, big brother, I was wrong. It's my fault for not recognizing the greatness before me. Please, let us go. Consider us a mere puff of wind. If you can't step on us, then just let us go," they pleaded. Moments before, these men were strutting about, but now, realizing they were up against a true adept, they knew they stood no chance.

The men, faces ashen, begged earnestly. Yun Buhui was tempted to give them a thrashing but understood the consequences if he were to act on it. So, he approached one of them, lifted his foot, and meticulously cleaned his shoe on the man's trousers.

"Don't go around bullying people anymore, or I'll beat you every time I see you. Now get out of here!" he commanded. At his words, they scattered like rats, grateful for their escape. Yun Buhui then retrieved the steel bar and returned it to its original spot. With a swift motion of his arm, the once spring-like steel bar straightened out, standing erect as if the previous spectacle had been nothing but an illusion.

"Young man, was that the Body Hardening Technique you just used?" someone from the crowd inquired, right after Yun Buhui had settled the matter.

"Body Hardening Technique? That's nothing but a simple illusion created by playing with optics and the viewer's perspective. You'll be able to do it too after a few years of studying chemistry at university," Yun Buhui replied, a wry smile hidden within his heart. Though he had witnessed similar illusions before, such tricks were not in Yun Buhui's repertoire.

He walked over and helped his father to his feet. "Dad, are you okay?"

"What was that all about just now?" Yun Jie couldn't buy into Yun Buhui's tall tales. He knew very well that although his son had been accepted to university, he hadn't attended. The boy claimed he'd study chemistry for a few years at college, but that was a load of nonsense.

"Oh no! Dad, did you get your hospital admission sorted out?" Yun Buhui didn't bother to respond, instead swiftly changing the subject. Yun Jie was taken aback by the question. "No, as soon as I got here, I was waylaid by those kids and didn't get the chance to take care of anything."

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go take care of the hospital admission right now!" Yun Buhui effectively steered the conversation away, helping his father momentarily put the issue out of his mind.

Upon reaching the admissions desk and submitting the form, the nurse glanced at it and announced, "The hospital deposit is ten thousand yuan." Hearing this, both men's mouths twitched involuntarily; they only had two thousand yuan between them. Now they were short by eight thousand for the deposit.

"Nurse, we're from the mountains outside the city. We didn't bring much money with us. Could you process our admission now, and I'll bring the money in a couple of days?" Yun Buhui put on his sweetest smile and pleaded with the nurse.

"I'm afraid that's not possible. We've never done that before. Why didn't you bring enough money to the hospital? It really complicates things," the nurse said, pausing her work and shaking her head in disapproval. She was worried about the responsibility; if she allowed them to proceed without the full deposit and they failed to pay later, she'd be on the hook for the balance.

"Please, Nurse, you seem like such a kind person. Help us out. If we can't get admitted now and the patient doesn't receive treatment, it could be life-threatening. Please, show us some compassion."

The nurse listened to Yun Buhui's plea, took a moment to reflect, and then responded.

"I'm not refusing to help you; it's just that I genuinely don't have the authority. Let me call the head of the Inpatient Department. If he gives the green light, then everything should be fine." Yun Buhui couldn't help but smile wryly to himself upon hearing this. He suspected that the likelihood of getting approval was slim.

"No need for a phone call; I approve. Let them be admitted to the hospital. These two seem like honest folks; they won't cheat us." At that moment, a voice came from behind, filling Yun Buhui with surprise and relief. He spun around and saw that the speaker was his mother's primary doctor, also the Deputy Director of the Inpatient Department.

"Director Hee, I can't thank you enough! Rest assured, I will repay the money as quickly as possible," Yun Buhui said, expressing his gratitude to Hee Gaang once again.

"How much money did you bring to the hospital?" Director Hee asked abruptly, catching Yun Buhui off guard. Nevertheless, he answered honestly, "Two thousand yuan." To his relief, Director Hee showed neither scorn nor disdain, simply nodding in acknowledgment.

"You can keep the two thousand yuan; no need to pay a deposit now. You'll need money for daily expenses while staying here. Since you're already in debt, owing another two thousand isn't much more. Oh, and let me sign this for you. Then go ahead and finish the admission process and return to caring for your patient." Yun Jie and Yun Buhui once again expressed their heartfelt thanks. They had heard that doctors in big hospitals could be quite aloof.

Yet, they now realized that even in such a large hospital, there were still doctors with the compassion and high ethical standards of Bai Qianren. With repeated thanks, they completed the necessary paperwork and left. Watching the father and son depart, Hee Gaang returned to the window he had been at before.

This was the same window where Yun Buhui had removed the steel bar, and now, one could clearly see the scratches on the bar where Yun Buhui had pulled it free.
